We have had the opportunity to enjoy a fun and different activity which combined active tourism and the culture of Sierra de Cadiz. We will tell you all about our experience in this new blog post. Hope you like it!
Genatur
Before talking about our day in Sierra de Cadiz, we would like to comment on some aspects of the company with which we lived this fantastic experience, Genatur. This company is pioneering in the world of active tourism throughout the province of Cadiz. It was created in 1998, when this kind of tourism was not popular yet. Genatur has almost 20 years of experience in the active tourism sector. This experience endorses it as one of the best companies with which to enjoy and discover the province of Cadiz. Nowadays, Genatur carries out different types of activities and in different natural spaces spread throughout Cadiz’s geography.
Our journey
The day started pretty early. We met with Antonio, the person who would guide us throughout the day, at 9 a.m.at the Genatur office in Jerez. He is one of the best professionals we have come across in the world of active and adventure tourism. We were punctual to our meeting and, after waiting a few minutes for other clients to arrive, we set out on the road to Sierra de Grazalema. This was the place chosen to enjoy and learn more about this part of the Cadiz geography.
We made our journey in a 9-seater van driven by Antonio, in a very pleasant environment where we met new people. Time passed really quickly and the tour seemed very short, thanks to the conversation and the explanations that our guide was giving us along the way. After an hour and a half, we reached Grazalema. At the path entrance we met other people who were coming along with us for the tour. We were a small group, making things easier for the day thanks to the relaxed atmosphere.
The path itself was of medium difficulty. By joining two roads, we ended up with a circular route of about 7 km. The first part was the hardest of the entire trail, while the second was a well-paved downhill area.
In the first part of the tour we were mainly focused on climbing to the top of Puerto de las Presillas. We made quite a few stops to catch our breath and listen to Antonio’s explanations about the flora and fauna of the mountain.
After we finished climbing, we stopped to eat something in an idyllic scenery, with incredible views and the winter sun that delighted the entire group. It was a time to get to know each other a little better and recover from this first part of the active tourism tour in Sierra de Cadiz.
Once we recovered our strengths, we continued on the path. We went a bit out of the way and headed to Corredor del Boyar, to enjoy a fantastic view where we could see all the summits of Sierra de Grazalema. A unique experience!
After the second part of the trail, much simpler than the first, we reached the Grazalema village. We enjoyed a relaxing walk through its narrow and charming streets, getting to know a little of the culture of this beautiful town.
And because we were a small group, we decided to stop for a coffee in one of the most central cafés in Grazalema. We even tried the typical rosquitos of this town. A treat for the palate!
After this stop, we headed back to the van and returned to Jerez, where we had started the day. Again, it was a very pleasant journey, where Antonio answered all our concerns and questions about the activities that we could find in Genatur. He named some of them: from hiking through nature or cultural visits to walks in Doñana, night astronomy days or even routes through the vineyards of the province. A fairly wide offer!
Once we reached Jerez, our fantastic journey of active tourism in Sierra de Cadiz came to its end. It was without doubt a unique and highly recommended experience that we will for sure try again.
