Here you can find the headquarters of the Chamber of Commerce Industry and Navigation of Gibraltar. Also, sports facilities, schools or the remains of the tower popularly known as “Del Polvorín” or Torrealmirante are located here. This tower was the base of operations of Admiral Don Egidio Boccanegra during the siege of Al-Yazirat Al-Hadra city in 1344.
Several machine-gun nests were built during the Civil War that are still standing. At that time, some of the saddest days in the history of Algeciras were lived. Behind the cemetery, a few metres from the southern entrance to the Paseo de la Cronisa, were the firing lines.
