The Castle of Fontanar, in Bornos, was an ancient Arabic fortress. In the 16th century it was completely restored and transformed into the Ribera Palace.
The Castle of Fontanar, in Bornos, was an ancient Arabic fortress from which some paintings of the wall and tower are preserved. In the 16th century it was completely restored and transformed, receiving the name of Ribera Palace.
The result is a Plateresque building which has some elements that stand out above the rest. Its spacious patio, surrounded by a beautiful cloister with stilted arches and the upper gallery with arcades of the same type. The marble fountain, brought from Italy, with the shield of the Ribera. Its beautiful gardens stand out along with a lodge, the only Pompeian main façade from the 16th century that exists in Andalusia.
