Cola del Embalse de Bornos (“Bornos Reservoir”) is a wetland of great ecological value declared a Natural Site.
Its declaration as a protected area took place in 1989. It is also a Special Protection Area for Birds (ZEPA in Spanish) since 2002.
With an area of 630 hectares, the fauna here is very important. Numerous birds nest, and many of them are protected species. These include the black-crowned night heron, the squacco heron or the common scoter; and mammals like the otter. The flora is composed of lentisks and olive trees, as well as other species that provide appropriate places for birds to make their nests.
If you want to get the most out of the visit, we recommend to do it in winter, during sunrise or sunset.
