The Tower of Guzman (Torre de Guzmán) is one of the most important historical monuments of Conil de la Frontera. The fact of being the principle item of the coat of arms of the town is proof of this.
Built in the early 14th century by Alonso Pérez de Guzmán, “Guzmán el Bueno”, in Gothic style, it was the centre element from which the urban expansion of the city began.
At its base the Plaza Mayor was created, now called Plaza de Santa Catalina, which housed the main buildings of the town. The parish church of Santa Catalina, council houses, the Grammar School and the main servants houses of the Dukes house.
This place has been the scene of all the public events of the town until the mid-19th century.
