If you would like to know El Puerto de Santa María in a totally different, sustainable and healthy way, enjoy the Las Lagunas bike route.
We leave the Reception and Information Centre (CRI) towards the Coto de la Isleta, turning to the left, bordering the salt flats and following the path until we cross the Guadalete River through the passage enabled on the bridge of the train track. Leaving to our right the “El Caño” Tidal Mill, we continue along Francisco Cossi Ochoa Street until its end, where we turn right and, when we reach the roundabout, on the left (third exit). At the next roundabout we turn left to take the bridge that crosses the train track and leaves the industrial estate towards the old N-IV road.
There we will connect with the bike path to our right, following it until its completion in the immediate vicinity of the Casino road. We take this road until, on a sharp left turn, the turnoff to the right that connects with the irrigation canal road appears. Continue along the latter to the height of a bridge on our right. We will cross to have before our eyes the Juncosa lagoon. This is the first of las lagunas that make up the endorheic complex next to the Salada lagoon, a little further on our left; and the Chica lagoon, on the left. At the first crossing we continue straight ahead and, at the next turnoff, we turn left. Almost immediately we will see a fork where we will turn to the right, then continue straight ahead until we cross the road (beware! It is a dangerous crossing).
We will enter the path of the vineyard houses, straight ahead until its end. We follow our Las Lagunas route turning left to, at the next intersection, return again to take our left. Continue straight ahead until the next crossing that allows us to turn left. Then, straight ahead, we cross the road just in front of Venta El Cepo roadside restaurant (control seal point). We cross and, leaving the venta on the left, we access the straight path that leads to the parking lot of the Puerto II Penitentiary Centre. As we see on the map, bordering the prison we take the road to the right and then again to the right. Before reaching the road again, we ride along the lane that is indicated to the left and that will take us, again, to the canal road, which we will take to the left.
