Would you like to know El Puerto de Santa María by riding? Enjoy the “Río Guadalete” bike route.
We leave the Reception and Information Centre (CRI) towards the Coto de la Isleta, turning to the left along the salt pans. Following the path, we cross the Guadalete River (Río Guadalete). We do so through the passage enabled on the bridge of the train track. Continue riding, leaving on our right the “El Caño” Tidal Mill and then, on the first turnoff to the right, take the path that runs along the river bank. Turning to the left as soon as we cross a small bridge, we access the Guadalete Park and we cross the path flanked by acacias that crosses it. A small detour of this path will allow us to go up to the viewpoint and enjoy its views over the estuary, the salt flats and the city.
At the exit of the Guadalete Park, we return to the road on the river bank and turn left along a zigzag path. This will take us to the roundabout that connects with the road that will take us to the Poblado de Doña Blanca. Upon passing the link on the highway, we take the path on the right, entering the agricultural area of Vega de los Pérez. In the end, the road deflects us to the left and takes us almost to the limit of the municipality with Jerez de la Frontera. Once there, we will see the signs to continue our route to the left along a path.
After two other left turns, it takes us to Poblado de Doña Blanca, a peculiar rural centre of our municipality. Look for its central square, where we can have a soda or seal our tour at the tapas bar (control point of the “Río Guadalete” route). We return along the same path through which we enter the Poblado, but now we will turn right. We follow the indications until crossing and avoiding the road taking a parallel path to the link with the Salinas de Poniente industrial estate. From this point we undo the road to the Guadalete Park where, as we see on the map, we can choose an interior route. In this way, we return to the entrance and then to our starting point for the route already travelled.
If you want to get to know El Puerto in a different way, doing the “Río Guadalete” bike route is a perfect option!
