In order to know the town centre, you can visit the different historical and religious buildings so that you know the history and culture of Olvera. One of them would be the emblematic Olvera Castle, built at the end of the 12th century as part of the defense system that the Nasrid kingdom of Granada had. This castle is of great cultural interest in the area.
You can also find remains of the Muslim wall on the streets.
As for the most representative religious building, you should visit the Arciprestal Church of Nuestra Señora de la Encarnación, which has great architectural value. You can also climb on foot to the Ermita de los Remedios Hermitage, one of the most important monuments of Olvera and a highly valued cultural point of interest.
In the surroundings of the monuments you will find the Barrio de la Villa, where you will go back 700 years ago when there was a Moorish Olvera.
Visit also the Peñón del Sagrado Corazón, in Plaza de Andalucía square. It stands out for the amount of vegetation and flora. Its access is made by stairs arranged in small terraces. There is a monument that crowns the rock: the statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus with outstretched arms.
There is a museum in Olvera called La Cilla that was used as a women’s prison. It is structured in two courtyards: the one that is open has its use as a museum and viewpoint. On the other side there is an old courtyard where palm trees are preserved and a well. Today it is used as an outdoor concert hall.
