The Guadalquivir River is located on the Northwest Coast of Cádiz, watering its countryside and flowing into the Atlantic Ocean when it reaches Sanlúcar de Barrameda. In this region there is a beautiful landscape of extensive crops, marshes and vineyards, rivers and sea.
In the Northwest Coast, an important cultural historical heritage is recognised. Proof of this are the fishing weirs, such as the Merin or Marín fishing weir. As a place of ethnological interest, the wineries of Sanlúcar de Barrameda stand out.
The tourist can learn about the culture and traditions of the area, enjoy their wines and cuisine and have fun at all their festivals.
The neighbouring municipality, Chipiona, has a long historical life and a rich artistic heritage. Among its most characteristic monuments, the Lighthouse and the Sanctuary of Regla stand out.
The main engine of the local economy of this Northwest Coast town is tourism, based mainly on its 13 kilometres of coastline. Beaches of great tourist attraction among which we highlight the Regla beach and the Ballena beach. The latter has gained more importance due to the construction of the Costa Ballena resort. Thanks to this, a new type of tourism has emerged in Chipiona: sports tourism.
Rota also enjoys a great tourist attraction within the Northwest Coast. In addition, this sector is important with respect to the economy of the city. This municipality is a holiday destination for thousands of travellers from all parts of Europe. In the low season its main activity is the fishing industry. The Naval Base of Rota is located in its municipal term.
Finally, we must mention Trebujena, whose territory and culture are, for the most part, belonging to the Guadalquivir Marshes and the Bajo Guadalquivir region.
