The Castillo de Luna (“Moon Castle”) was built in the 13th century on a Muslim fortified convent or ribat. It is rectangular shaped and features five Battlement towers. Also, it has been home to the Ponce de León family.
This fortress is a symbol for the people from Rota. Moreover, it has had throughout its history different uses: it worked as a hospital and a school and, currently, it is Rota’s Town Hall and Tourism Office.
