The Mercado Central de Rota (Market of Rota), from 1928, is distributed around a central arcaded patio. It originally had stalls selling meat, fish, eggs, vegetable and fruits. There were also coffee stalls and municipal and veterinary inspection.

In 1962, it was extended with a second floor. In 2008, the reopening of the cloister-yard public market was made after a complete restoration, giving it a conventual air according to the history of the place. It stands where the former convent of La Merced once was.
