The Ducal Palace of Medina Sidonia (Palacio Ducal de Medina Sidonia), in Sanlucar de Barrameda (Spain), is a beautiful building whose origin lies in the Alcázar Viejo. This was the residence used by Guzmán el Bueno to seat the Lordship of Sanlucar, obtained at the end of the 13th century.
From that era, it retains some Hispanic-Arabic elements that have resisted the different remodellings and expansions that the Palace has undergone. This happened since its conversion into the residence of the Dukes of Medina Sidonia in the 16th century.
The successive enlargements and reforms made in the original Palace currently show a building with various decorative styles. The Renaissance style is very evident, and we can find some Baroque spaces which were very typical in the Andalusian architecture.
Beautiful gardens are spread around the palace, differentiating various areas of implementation.
Today, the Palace preserves the archive of the Ducal House of Medina Sidonia and is home to the ‘Medina Sidonia Foundation’, with a very important historical archive.
