The Church of Santa María la Blanca, in Seville, is a Christian church in Baroque style that was originally a mosque and a synagogue. They say beauty is on the inside, and this church is a good example of this.
The Church of Santa Maria de las Nieves de Sevilla, known as Church of Santa Maria la Blanca, is located in the old town, on Santa Maria la Blanca Street. It is the Holy See of the Brotherhood of the Rosario de Nuestra Señora de las Nieves. It was originally a mosque and a synagogue. However, after the anti-Jewish revolt of 1391, it became a Christian church.
It has two completely different facades. In one of them, shaped tower-facade, the gateway stands out: a pointed arch decorated with diamond tips carved in stone. Go into the church and prepare yourself to be left speechless. Its ceilings and vaults with plasterwork ornaments, its arches, its impressive Baroque style Altarpiece in the background…
The Church of Santa Maria la Blanca has been remodelled many times over the years to become the baroque beauty that it is today. The last remodelling was carried out between 2010 and 2015.
This church is one step away from other tourist attractions in the city, such as the Casa de Salinas, the Hospital de los Venerables or the Jardines de Murillo.
Do not think twice about visiting the Church of Santa Maria la Blanca when in Seville. It may go unnoticed outside, but its magnificense lies inside.
