Hotel Alfonso XIII, in Seville, is one of the most magnificent Sevilian historic buildings. Luxury is in each of its rooms and its jaw-dropping facade leaves everyone speechless.
Hotel Alfonso XIII is located in the centre of Seville, near the San Telmo Palace and the Royal Tobacco Factory. The historic hotel, owned by the local government, offers its services through a New York-based luxury hotel chain.
It was built in the early twentieth century, when a tender for the construction of a hotel is carried out on the occasion of the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929. The rules were drafted by the Sevillian architect Aníbal González, father of such magnificent works as the Plaza de España or Plaza de America. José Espiau y Muñoz won the competition. It opened in 1928 with the presence of King Alfonso XIII of Spain and Queen Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg.
It is an example of Neomudejar art and Andalusian regionalist style. The splendour of the exterior decorative elements and the sumptuousness of its interior make this hotel a treat for the eyes. No wonder it is for many a dream to stay at least one night in this magnificent building. So well known celebraties have done, like Angelina Jolie or Bruce Springsteen. Weddings or New Year’s Eve dinners are also held in the Hotel Alfonso XIII.
You cannot visit the Hotel Alfonso XIII in Seville if you don’t stay in it, but we assure you that it is worth it. If not, at least you can stop by to see the beauty of its facade, as it is very close to the main tourist attractions of the city such as the Alcazar of Seville or the Torre del Oro.
