The Hospital de los Venerables, in Seville, brings together art and culture within and is a fabulous example of Sevilian architecture. Thanks to this, it is a must when visiting the Andalusian city.
The Hospital de los Venerables Sacerdotes (“Venerable Priests Hospital”), known as the Hospital de los Venerables, was built in the seventeenth century in the Santa Cruz district. It served as home to the priests until its usurpation during the French occupation. Today it is the headquarters of Centro Velázquez, in honour of the famous Sevillian painter. It is located in Plaza de los Venerables, very close to the Jardines de Murillo, the Alcazar of Seville and the Seville Cathedral.
Inside, a Sevilian patio stands out, with a central fountain surrounded by circular steps decorated with tiles. The arches, with marble columns, also shine on its own merit. The inside of the church will leave you speechless; especially its main altarpiece which is literally a golden dream.
This baroque building combines art and culture, as it is the headquarters of the Fundación Fondo de Cultura de Sevilla too. Exhibitions, conferences, workshops, concerts and symposiums are held here, in addition to having the Library of Baroque.
Do not miss your chance, just for ten euros or for free on the first Thursday of each month, to visit this wonder of Sevilian architecture during your route.
