Teatro de la Maestranza is located very close to the Torre del Oro and just 500 metres away from the Real Maestranza Bullring. Once you are here, you only have to cross the Paseo de Cristóbal Colón to enjoy the Guadalquivir river.
Thanks to architects Luis Marín and Aurelio del Pozo, the Teatro de la Maestranza opened in 1991. Since then, it has hosted all kinds of musical events, although its role is mainly as opera house. Many important figures have performed here, like Luciano Pavarotti or Montserrat Caballé, among many others.
The hall can accommodate 1,800 spectators and the stage went from 800 to 1,600 metres after a remodelling in 2007. Exhibitions, lectures and cultural studies are also held in the theatre. It is the headquarters of the Real Orquesta Sinfónica de Sevilla (“Royal Symphony Orchestra of Seville”) and the Holy Week Announcement. A New Year concert is held too, in order to celebrate the entry of each new year.
