Plaza Nueva, in Seville, is the ideal place to enjoy your time outdoors. Surrounded by historic buildings, be amazed by the unique atmosphere you will find there.
Plaza Nueva (literally, “New Square”), in Seville, is located in the historic centre of the city. Here you can find the City Hall building, with an amazing facade. Over the years it has changed its name from Plaza de la Libertad (“Freedom Square”) to Plaza de la República (“Republic Square”). Finally, it was decided to call it Plaza Nueva, as it is known today. In the centre of the square the statue of King Ferdinand III of Castile rises. Also, you can see around outstanding works of architecture as the Telefónica building, the Chapel of San Onofre or Casa Longoria.
It is a square with lots of history. Its lands were part of an arm of the Guadalquivir river and when some of its buildings were built, they discovered remains of boats and a dock. A convent was also built here for the Franciscan Order, which would be eventually devastated after the French invasion of Seville in the early nineteenth century.
Currently Plaza Nueva is brimming with life, carrying out here all sorts of events throughout the year (in New Year’s Eve, too!), its traditional Christmas market and with lots of restaurants very close to it.
