Torsten lives in Saarbrücken (Germany). With him, we inaugurate this new section in the blog that we are going to call “Cádiz by Guiris“. Short stories where people who come to Cadiz tell us all about their experiences and impressions during their visit to our land. We can learn a lot from all of them!
A vacation in Cadiz
Cadiz has a beautiful and fascinating historic center. Everything is within walking distance and can be reached on foot.
There are not many hotels in the city, so it is worth “taking a look” at the apartments that are rented in the city. The narrow streets allow the heat to be bearable and the climate pleasant.
In the morning, the city is full of people who make purchases of all kinds in the countless shops of the historic center. At night there is an vast offer of restaurants and bars of tapas for visitors. During the summer months, and the good weather, the beaches become the main target for tourists.
If you choose to stay in an apartament, I recommend going to the historic center market first thing in the morning. Buying fresh fish and shrimp that you can prepare in your apartment becomes a real pleasure. At night I highly recommend to have dinner at a bar or at a restaurant and try the wide variety of dishes that Spanish cuisine offers.
If you stay in a hotel, avoid half board and try the cuisine of the province of Cadiz every day in a new place.
If you want to leave the city or consider to travel around the province, you can organize your vacations without renting a car if you move around big cities. Although, if you want to do some routes, you will have to rent one.
Through the historic center or outside the walls you can rent a bicycle to move around the area. And one last recommendation: go by ferry to El Puerto de Santa María, where you can explore it by bicycle.
