Numerous vestiges attest to the Phoenician presence in the area. Port of undeniable importance during the Roman and Visigothic times, it has managed to maintain the flavour and charm of the seaside villages. Of the medieval fortifications, it conserves canvases of its walls in the Puerta de la Villa (16th century) and in a bulwark that fortified them. From the watchtowers of Roche, Puerco and Castilnovo (16th and 17th centuries), possible pirate attacks or invasions were sighted. Finally, the Tower of Guzmán, from the 14th and 15th centuries, was part of the old castle. It is also the nucleus around from which the population was formed.
In the same Plaza del Castillo are located the Parish Church of Santa Catalina and the Town Hall. Other outstanding monuments are the Hospital de la Misericordia, the Hermitage of Nuestro Padre Jesús Nazareno (patron saint of the town), the Convent of Nuestra Señora de las Virtues and the Hermitage of the Espíritu Santo.
Along 14 kilometres of coastline, there are beaches for all tastes. Beaches of fine white sand and transparent waters that allow the practise of all kinds of water sports in an environment of spectacular beauty. Going down the village, the long Castilnovo beach is on the left, close to Los Bateles (with numerous services and surrounded by countless restaurants and tapas bars), La Fontanilla, El Roqueo, and Fuente del Gallo. There are also charming and idyllic coves at the foot of amazing cliffs, such as Camacho, Pitones, Melchor, del Aceite, El Frailecillo, El Áspero or Cala Encendida.
There are also valuable natural spaces in Conil, such as Pinares de Roche and El Colorado.
