This summer we had the opportunity to live a unique shopping experience. When you go to a shopping centre, you think of finding a multitude of shops and restaurants to spend your free time and go shopping. Or where to find a cinema or bowling alley to have fun with friends or family. Visiting Bahía Sur is something else.
Bahía Sur is located in the heart of the Bay of Cádiz Natural Park. Everything that happens there is magical and different. Its promenade has become a meeting point for young and old people. They organise activities focused on the care and respect of nature.
Its summer program includes every Thursday free sessions of Ashtanga Yoga. In an incomparable setting, outdoors and with the sunset over the city of Cádiz as the setting. Fridays have been reserved for performances of magic, Brazilian samba, aerial or flamenco dance shows or juggling.
On Saturdays, kids have learned environmental values in their ‘Nature Camp’. Workshops of the Bay Whale (the real skeleton of a baby whale that recovered the mall!), aromatic plants, sports gymkanas or canoeing in the waters of the Bay.
Without knowing what we were going to find when visiting Bahía Sur, our plan was complete. We arrived in the morning to do some shopping, since there were still summer bargains to take advantage of. At lunchtime, we made a stop to regain strength in one of its terrace restaurants. Our choice was El Fogón de Mariana. They offer Mediterranean cuisine with local and seasonal produce. You cannot miss their meat from La Janda and other recipes such as salmorejo, papas aliñás or any of its chacinas.
In the afternoon we wanted to enjoy the surroundings, so we went to reception to advise us on any of their outdoor plans. They gave us binoculars to observe the birds that inhabit the park. In addition, they gave us two bikes for a ride and enjoy the surroundings. They recommended the Sal y los Molinos Maleares Route. We discover, in addition to endless beaches, a path that connects Cádiz with San Fernando surrounded by natural historical and architectural heritage.
After our expedition, we decided to return to the shopping centre and appreciate the sunset with live music. Every summer day they have dedicated a musical theme to a motive that adds value to the natural environment that surrounds us.
Undoubtedly, a different commercial area that offered us a new way of looking at shopping centres as meeting points that go beyond shopping. Going to Bahía Sur means feeling nature.
