Puerta de la Villa is one of the main entrances that have reached our days from the old walled city of Conil.
Built in the early 16th century, here the road began heading to Vejer de la Frontera. It had two floors and from there the surveillance route of the hallways began and ran all around the city walls.
The construction dates back from the year 1502, when Duke Juan de Guzmán ordered to enclose the town with walls. It was carried out due to the danger the neighbours felt as they were so close to the sea, the presence of enemies on the coast and piracy.
The current appearance is the result of renovation work carried out in mid-18th century.
