Torre Alháquime (the “Torre de Alfaquín”) is a product of the Muslim domain, being a key piece in the border between the Kingdom of Granada and the Castilian one. From the Nasrid era, it retains the remains of the wall of its medieval fortress that surround the city centre, with the Arco de la Villa.
Its main monuments are located in the labyrinthine layout of its streets. These are the Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de la Antigua and the monument to the Sacred Heart of Jesus. The latter is located in an emblematic square known as El Santo.
The history of the population of Torre Alhaquime is linked to the phenomenon of banditry, since there were many of them who wandered through these places. Even the son of the legendary José María El Tempranillo was born here. The visitor can make a route through these places, rivers and farmhouses with a real risk of being kidnapped by bandits.
