A culinary, natural and cultural paradise

Sanlúcar is nestled on the left bank of the mouth of the Guadalquivir River and in front of Doñana National Park. This stately city has an urban structure that is characterised by being divided into two main centres: Barrio Alto and Barrio Bajo.

Barrio Alto is the historical and monumental nucleus. Of white façades and aristocratic palaces such as the Palacio de Orleans-Borbón (next to the Basilica of Nuestra Señora de la Caridad) or the Renaissance Ducal Palace of Medina Sidonia. In the vicinity you will find the Arquillo or Puerta de Rota, remains of the medieval wall, the Castle of Santiago (15th century), the Convent of the Barefoot and the Church of Nuestra Señora de la O.

The genuine microclimate of the city is essential for the breeding of manzanilla, its most representative wine. It is raised in white oak barrels in the wineries of the town centre, the so-called “wine cathedrals”. They are perfectly integrated into the urban structure of Sanlúcar and the visit to any of them becomes very interesting.

For tapas in Sanlúcar, nothing better than Plaza Cabildo or Bajo de Guía, the fishermen’s neighbourhood flooded with restaurants where you can try the famous prawns, fish and seafood stews.

The coast of Sanlúcar has 6 kilometres of beaches (Bajo de Guía, La Calzada or Las Piletas, Playa de la Jara and Playa del Coto, on the shore of the Doñana National Park. From Sanlúcar you can visit Doñana and its natural places. The famous horse races take place on its beaches in summer.
