Puerta de Rota is known in Sanlúcar de Barrameda as Arquillo. It was part of the old gate of La Fuente, one of the open accesses through the wall which protected the town. At this point, the road between Sanlúcar and Rota began.

Its construction dates back between the 13th and 15th centuries.
It is known as “Rota Gateway” because at this point the road between Sanlúcar and Rota began. As for the wall surrounding the town, it was Alonso Pérez de Guzmán “El Bueno” who surrounded the city.
During Holy Week, people come by this arch to see the brotherhoods go by. Everyone claims that it is one of the most beautiful places to see it.
