Many facts led to the proliferation of defensive buildings at the Bay. Among them, there are two that stand out. The presence of the constant danger that caused the military base of Gibraltar; and the attacks from the Turkish, the Barbary pirates, the English, the Dutch and the French.
Coinciding with World War II, an artillery and illumination project of the Strait of Gibraltar was conducted. The area was filled with armoured gun positions, war nests, foxholes and command bunkers. It was so in order to address a hypothetical allied attack from the British colony. You can visit many of them nowadays.
