It has a spectacular library consisting of over 25,000 volumes and some pieces of great value. At a scientific level, this is where the official time of Spain is established. It has a set of atomic clocks that establish and maintain the scale of universal coordinated time (UTC-ROA).
For more than a century, it has been holding the honour of being the first geomagnetic observatory in Spain. It also has a seismograph station.
