WHAT TO SEE IN ALCALA DE LOS GAZULES

In Alcalá de los Gazules you can find a wide variety of sites to see, since it is located within the natural landscape of the Sierra de Cádiz. Having an extraordinary location in Los Alcornocales Natural Park, the town has a wide natural wealth and can be known thanks to the Picacho Nature Classroom.

As for its history and what to see about it (from the middle ages to the 18th century), we can visit the Roman Deposit and Salada Fountain. The Roman Site of the Mesa del Esparragal and its Roman Bridge. Remains of Roman castles and walls are still preserved in the streets, as well as beautiful sources of Muslim origin.

Alcalá de los Gazules has certain buildings and monuments of a historical nature that we must see. The Castle of Alcalá de los Gazules, the Laja de los Hierros site, the Casa del Cabildo. The Greater Parish Church of San Jorge and the convents of Santa Clara and Santo Domingo.

Something important to highlight would be its festivals, such as the August Fair (August 23-26), the Feast of St. George (April 23). The Pilgrimage of Nuestra Señora de los Santos (patron saint of the town, 10 August), and the Al-Kalat International Music Festival. The latter attracts many visitors, being suitable for all audiences. Classical music, flamenco, theatre and cultural visits (usually from August 12 to 14).

As for the cuisine of the place, the black pudding (morcilla), cold and hot gazpacho, goat cheese, cabbage stew, venison and wild boar stand out.
