Would you like to know El Puerto de Santa María by pedalling? Enjoy then the “Castillo de Doña Blanca” bike route!
We leave the Reception and Information Centre (CRI) towards the Coto de la Isleta, turning to the left. We border the salt flats and follow the road until we cross the Guadalete River through the passage enabled on the bridge of the train track. Continue riding, leaving the “El Caño” tidal mill on our right. Then, on the first turn to the right, we enter the path that runs along the banks of the Guadalete River. It is next to the Park of the same name. At the end of this road, we cross a small bridge and take the path to the left, next to the highway.
We leave the road and, with great caution, we access the roundabout that connects with the road that will take us to the Poblado de Doña Blanca. Once we arrive at the town, at the roundabout we take to the left. We cross over the train track and enter the lane that immediately leaves on the left. The path will take us, if we follow the directions on the map, to the top of the Pinar del Coig. Then we will arrive at the Pinar de los Pozos de la Piedad and, finally, at the Archaeological Site of the Castillo de Doña Blanca (control seal point).
The return is similar, but now the route surrounds the Pinar de Coig on its south face. We will find a somewhat different landscape. Returning from the Poblado towards the city, we have the option of evading a large section of road along a path that runs on your right. At the roundabout at the Salinas de Poniente industrial estate, we turn off, as we see on the map, by an access ramp that we will find to the right of the roundabout.
We cross the industrial estate next to the landscaped boulevard that runs through it, reaching the small central lake that beautifies this industrial zone. We cross the lake bridge and take the road on the left, looking for our way back, same as the previous one.
If you want to know El Puerto in a different way, doing the “Castillo de Doña Blanca” bike route is a perfect option!
