Do you fancy a bike route along the Coast and Urban Area of El Puerto de Santa María (Province of Cádiz)? Then put on your helmet and let’s go!
Start at the Reception and Information Centre (CRI in Spanish) and head towards the old N-IV to cross it. We take the bike path to Parque Calderón by the pedestrian bridge that takes us to the historic centre. Go to Micaela Aramburu Avenue from where, with a small turn to the right, we will see the Castle of San Marcos. We go around its square and we return to Micaela Aramburu Avenue by Federico Rubio Street.
Continue forward passing through Plaza El Polvorista and continuing along Aurora Street. At the end of this street we go to the left to take the Paseo de La Bajamar, towards the coast. We arrive at the bike lane of Paseo de La Puntilla, which connects with the Paseo de El Aculadero and Puerto Sherry. At the end of this stretch of bike lane, we continue along the road that surrounds the residential area of this marina to take the Paseo de La Muralla. We cross the parking lot of this beach and we join the bike path, which will take us along the Paseo Antonio Ariza Cañadillas. At this point of the tour of the Coast and Urban Area we can make a stop to see the ruins of the old Castle of Santa Catalina.
We continue to La Calita beach and, from there, we take Luis Suarez Rodriguez Street. We continue along Eduardo and Felipe Osborne Avenue and, after two roundabouts, turn towards Club Mediterráneo Avenue. At the end of this road, Azucena Street leads us to Pinar de Mochicle and back to the beach. Entering the pine forest, on our right we find a pedestrian access. We will cross to exit to the Océano Índico street and turn left at the first crossing towards the Mar Adriático street. This will take us to a roundabout, where we will take the second exit on Océano Pacífico Street.
From here, at the second roundabout we meet, we leave this street to take the third exit to Mar Báltico Street. This will take us to the Paseo de El Ancla. We follow this walk until the end, leaving it on Cornamusa Street until the roundabout. There we will take the third exit towards Popa Street, which will leave us in the bike lane of the CA-603 road, the old road from El Puerto to Rota. We will turn right towards the city centre. In this part of the route along the Coast and Urban Area we will pass by the Europa Park and, facing Valdés Street, to the Bullring.
We surround the square, and through Pagador Street we head towards the Plaza de España. There we will find the Priory Major Church and the Municipal Museum. In this square you will find Bar La Aurora, our point of control seal. To return, we take Palacios Street until the end, turning left to reach Micaela Aramburu Avenue, and through it to the Ribera del Río. From there we cross the pedestrian bridge to return along the bike path to the CRI.
As you can see, the bike route along the Coast and Urban Area of El Puerto goes a long way. You will love all the spots that you will discover by pedalling!
