The Convento de Capuchinos (“Capuchin Convent”) keeps crafts, history and legends of Ubrique (province of Cadiz) among its walls. It is next to the old tanneries where leather was tanned and with stunning views of the old town.
The Capuchin Convent is a 17th-century building. The area dedicated to the cloister and cells of the Capuchins currently houses the “Manos y Magia en la Piel” Permanent Exhibition. Through guided tours you can discover the leather tradition from its beginnings to the present.
In the church, the Virgen de los Remedios, the patron saint of Ubrique, waits to be moved in August to the Parish. From there, once the novena is celebrated in its honour, it goes out in procession every September 8. The following Sunday, Voting Day, it returns to the Convent on a beautiful tour through the streets of the old town.
