Casa de Pilatos, in Seville, is a magnificent palace located in the old town. Its mix of styles (Italian Renaissance and Spanish Mudejar) and its gardens make this place a must see during your visit to Seville.
Casa de Pilatos (literally, “House of Pilates”), in Seville (Andalusia, Spain), is a mixture of different styles. On one hand, the Italian Renaissance and, on the other hand, the Spanish Mudejar. The construction of the palace began in the late fifteenth century. The building was carried out thanks to the idea of Pedro Enriquez. However, he died only 10 years later, so his son Fadrique Enríquez and his grandson Per Afan de Ribera completed the construction.
Fadrique, who travelled to Italy during his pilgrimage to Jerusalem, was astonished by the Italian Renaissance. He adapted this style to some of the rooms of Casa de Pilatos. Per Afan de Ribera, on the other hand, became one of the great art collectors of his time. His collection includes many of the unique paintings exposed in the different palaces of the city of Seville.
Casa de Pilatos was completed in the late sixteenth century. Today, the building also works as a filming location: Game of Thrones, Knight and Day or Lawrence of Arabia were filmed here.
Casa de Pilatos is one of the most visited tourist attractions in Seville. So, we recommend to stop by this beautiful palace. It will leave you speechless!
